112-Year-Old, Dilapidated Home in Cleveland to be Converted into a Biocellar
Permaculture designer, Jean Loria's latest project is turning a 112-year-old home on East 66th street in Cleveland into a Biocellar. The house would carefully be torn down, the existing basement reinforced, and a slanted, greenhouse like roof would be fitted over the basement allowing the growing of crops during weather that would otherwise not permit it.
The temperature inside the Bioceller in the dead of winter wouldn't get lower than 10ºC (50ºF) below the frost line.
The small amounts of electricity needed to power any lights or pumps will be generated by people peddling an exercise bike.
